Tata Electronics has bought a 60% share in Pegatron’s iPhone manufacturing facility in India. Tata acquired Wistron’s operations in India in March of last year, indicating that it is serious about becoming a major player in Indian electronics production.

The Competition Commission of India has allowed the acquisition of the controlling share in Pegatron Technology India. Following the acquisition, Pegatron India will undergo a rebranding to reflect its new ownership structure.
Tata already has an iPhone assembly factory in Karnataka, which was acquired as part of the Wistron acquisition last year, and it is now becoming an even larger position in Apple’s supply chain. Tata is also establishing another iPhone assembly facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu.
All of this highlights India’s rising status as an electronics manufacturing hub.
